Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant changes, including the addition of cafés and shops, the hotel replacing the castle, and the creation of a private beach. However, the account is only partial: key transformations are missing or unclear, especially the exchange of the fishing-boat and marina areas and the changes to the dock. Some locations are also misreported. For example, the public beach is described as being “on the top of the north,” although the map shows it to the north-east, and the castle is said to be “beyound the sea.” The overview is vague and repeats a few additions rather than summarising the main pattern of redevelopment. Select the most significant changes and describe their positions accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction to descriptions of 2000 and today, followed by a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited: features are listed without a clear spatial route or grouping, and the final “to summarie” sentence largely repeats earlier details rather than drawing together the main changes. Linking phrases such as “In 2000” and “In today” are used repeatedly and sometimes awkwardly, while relationships between features are not always clear. Organise the report around an overview and then grouped changes—for example, harbour facilities, transport, and the southern shore—and use precise references to connect locations.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “public beach,” “car park,” “passenger ferry,” “private beach,” and “replace with hotel,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unclear, such as “numerous number of things,” “things change,” and “a new thing add in it.” Spelling errors—including “horbour,” “introduse,” “beyound,” and “castel”—also make the writing less clear and reduce control of vocabulary. Aim for precise verbs and collocations used to describe maps, such as “was relocated,” “was converted into,” and “was added beside.” Check spelling carefully, especially for repeated task vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences rely on simple structures, and attempts to describe locations often contain errors that make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “public beach on the top of the north,” “the shower and toilet are double,” and “castel replace with hotel.” These show problems with articles, sentence completeness, verb forms, and agreement. The opening also has an awkward construction in “There are numerous number of things,” while “In today Porth Harbour” is repeated without a correct time expression. Use complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and practise past passive forms for the earlier map, such as “The castle was replaced by a hotel.” A wider range of accurate sentence patterns would make the comparisons easier to understand.
