Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant features, including the hotel, private beach, cafés and shops, ferries, and the public beach to the east. However, the comparison is only minimally developed, and some details are inaccurate or unclear: for example, the response suggests that there were public beaches “in the main road” and that people “face castles,” whereas the map shows a public beach south of the road and a disused castle on the south-eastern headland. The key changes—especially the exchange of the fishing-boat and marina areas—are not reported. The overview that there is a “big difference” is too general to summarise the main transformations. Select the major changes and describe their locations accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has a basic time-based direction, moving from “before 2000” to “now today,” and it uses a few linking expressions such as “according to the map” and “in the past.” This gives the reader some sense of the intended comparison. However, ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs or grouped by location or type of change, and several points run together in long, loosely connected sentences. Repeated phrases such as “there were” and “now” do not establish clear relationships between features. Some references, including “in that place” and “in this life style,” are difficult to interpret. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and focused detail paragraphs, using clear links between the two plans.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt relevant map vocabulary, including “main road,” “car parking,” “fishing boats,” “private beach,” and “cafes and shops,” so the reader can recognise some of the features being described. However, the vocabulary is basic and often imprecise, with repeated general words such as “place,” “many,” and “difference.” Several spelling errors—such as “femes,” “oublic,” and “peaple”—and inaccurate forms like “chages” and “caffes” make the description harder to follow. Some expressions are also unsuitable for describing a map, such as “people face castles” and “for the safety and relaxation.” Use precise location and change vocabulary, for example “is situated,” “was replaced by,” and “was relocated,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to compare past and present using time markers such as “in 2000” and “today,” and some simple clauses communicate individual features. However, sentence structures are very limited and errors are frequent, sometimes obscuring the intended meaning. Examples include “the plan show,” “there were a few public beach,” and “there was many issues are there,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement, plurals, and clause construction. Tense and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in the long sequence beginning “according to the map.” Practise writing short, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then combine related ideas using accurate past and present forms. Check articles, agreement, and punctuation in each sentence.
