Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify several major changes accurately, including the exchange of the marina and fishing-boat areas, the castle’s replacement by a hotel, the conversion of the southern public beach to a private hotel beach, and the addition of cafés and shops. Your opening overview also signals that the harbour has been redeveloped. This covers the main task and shows some of the broader comparison expected at a stronger level. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: “one dock is increased” does not explain that an additional jetty and a second berthed boat are shown, and the car-park and facilities changes are only partly described. The claim that other features remain the same is too broad; specify, for example, that the north-eastern public beach and lifeboat remain.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by details about the harbour’s facilities and southern area. This gives the reader a coherent general route through the comparison. However, progression is weakened by short, disconnected statements and mechanical transitions such as “As per diagram,” “Moreover,” and repeated “While.” The overview also combines several changes with the vague statement “the others remaining the same,” so the relationship between changed and unchanged features is not clear. Grouping the information by location or by major changes, then using precise links such as “In the northern basin” and “By contrast, to the south,” would make the comparison easier to follow. Check that each sentence connects grammatically to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “marina,” “fishing boats,” “lifeboat,” “private beach,” and “constructed,” so the reader can identify the main features. There is also some attempt to describe change through phrases such as “has been replaced” and “remained.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, including “how much of a changed has made,” “one dock is increased,” and “the others remaining the same.” The spelling and form “cafe” should be “cafés” in this context, and “besides” is not the clearest way to express location. Aim for accurate, conventional map language—such as “an additional jetty was added” and “the remaining features were unchanged”—rather than forcing less natural phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including “While the marina area has been replaced…” and “From the road area leading to lifeboat, there is an addition…”. The main changes are generally understandable, but control is uneven. The opening sentence, “The diagram shows how much of a changed has made,” has a faulty construction, while “Whereas the others remaining the same” is a fragment without a finite verb. Tense and agreement also need attention: “a hotel has been constructed” sits alongside past-time references, and “one dock is increased” does not form a clear passive construction. Articles and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, as in “at the castle disused area” and the lower-case “besides” after a full stop. Practise complete comparative sentences and consistent past or present-perfect forms.
