Student answer (Band 5.5)
The map illustrates the information of a Porth Harbour in 2000,and compare it today.
Overall,in 2000 the map of Habour port shows several changes as compare to now,but the major things such as,beach location and passenger ferries are same in both sides. However,Castle change into Hotel and other things also change with the passage of time.
At first,Porth Habour in 2000 located at the main road and the car paking bends to the east side, shower and toilets are right hand of parking but on the southern side there`is also a parking area and a road which goes to the lifeboat. The public beaches on the northern side of the map and the passenger ferries behind it.
On the flip side,we look at the Harbour Porth today the parking and public beach look same in both views but the areas of marina privateand fishing boats are parallel to each other. In addition, the castle is replaced by hotel.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the broad comparison and note that the castle became a hotel, but the response only partially reports the map’s main changes. The overview says the beach locations and passenger ferries are the same, yet the southern beach changes from public to private, and the ferry area is not clearly described as unchanged. Several important developments are omitted, especially the exchange of the marina and fishing-boat areas, the added facilities, and the extra jetty. Some locations are also unclear: “the car paking bends to the east side” does not accurately describe the layout. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview of the major transformations, then compare the northern and southern harbour areas with accurate details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the earlier and current plans. This gives the reader a basic route through the comparison, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In addition” help signal relationships. However, the progression within paragraphs is not always clear, and some references are difficult to follow. For example, “the passenger ferries behind it” leaves the location of “it” uncertain, while “the areas of marina privateand fishing boats are parallel to each other” does not clearly explain what changed. Organise details by location or by change, and use precise references so each comparison follows logically from the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “main road,” “public beaches,” “lifeboat,” “marina,” and “replaced by,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or awkward choices make details harder to understand. “Car paking bends” is not an appropriate description of the car park’s position, and “parallel to each other” does not convey that the marina and fishing boats exchanged areas. There are also spelling and form errors, such as “Habour” and “privateand.” Aim for precise location and change vocabulary, such as “situated to the west of,” “relocated,” and “converted into,” and check spelling and spacing carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a clause beginning “which goes to the lifeboat.” Nevertheless, errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to make some statements difficult to interpret. For example, “The map illustrates the information of a Porth Harbour in 2000,and compare it today” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “the castle is replaced by hotel” has problems with tense and article use. Several sentences also lack clear grammatical connections, as in “The public beaches on the northern side of the map and the passenger ferries behind it.” Practise accurate past-versus-present comparisons, articles, and complete sentence structures, and check punctuation spacing.
