Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two maps and attempt an overview, noting that the harbour has changed and mentioning additions such as cafés, shops and a hotel. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it stops before describing the main spatial changes, and the unfinished phrase “according to the diagram, no” provides no supporting details. Some claims are also inaccurate or unclear: the dock is not described as new, and the public beach, roads and lifeboat are not all unchanged (the southern beach becomes private, and cafés and shops are added beside the lifeboat). The response is 76 words, below the required 150. To improve, complete the comparison with key changes, including the exchange of the fishing-boat and marina areas and the hotel’s private beach.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by a paragraph beginning “Overall,” which signals an overview. However, the ideas do not progress into a complete summary. The final line, “according to the diagram, no,” is unfinished, so the reader receives no detailed comparison or logical development. The overview also combines several changes and unchanged features in one long, loosely connected sentence, making relationships difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main changes, and group related features—for example, changes to the harbour facilities and changes to the southern shore. Complete each sentence and use clear links such as “whereas” or “in contrast” to show what changed and what remained.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “harbour,” “public beach,” “lifeboat,” “showers and toilets,” and “cafes and shops,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings reduce clarity: “really developed” is vague, “till the date” is unnatural for describing a map, and “cpmpared” and “featues” are misspelled. “New dock” is also an imprecise description because the dock is present in both plans; the change is an additional jetty and more boats. Aim for precise map language such as “was added,” “was converted into,” “was relocated,” and “remained unchanged,” while checking spelling and avoiding conversational intensifiers like “really.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a longer overview sentence, but grammatical control is weak and the sentence is difficult to follow. For example, “The diagram below represent” has subject–verb disagreement, while “in todays date have really developed” has an incorrect possessive form and an unclear verb construction. The phrase “compared to old one” is missing an article, and “the other featues … remains” has both a plural agreement problem and an incomplete sentence structure. Most of the response relies on simple statements, and the final clause is unfinished. Practise accurate present and past forms for map comparisons, including “the harbour has developed” and “the facilities remained,” and use complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs. Proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries before finishing.
