Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the castle by a hotel, the change from a public to a private beach, and the addition of cafés and shops near the lifeboat. However, the account is only partial and some locations or changes are unclear. For example, you say the marina was “in the west of the map,” whereas it was in the northern basin in 2000; the fishing boats and marina then exchanged areas. You also mention new showers and toilets but do not clearly describe the relocation of the marina or the extra jetty and boats at the dock. The overview, “different changes,” is too general to highlight the main pattern. Group the major changes and describe their positions accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, then describes changes to the harbour and nearby facilities, and ends with a brief overview. This gives the reader a basic sense of the comparison. However, progression is not consistently clear, and several ideas run together in long sentences, such as the account of the marina, fishing boats, castle and road. Linking phrases such as “in 2000,” “nowadays” and “however” are used, but connections are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, and references such as “this place” are not always clear. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main groups of changes, and connect each comparison explicitly so the reader can follow what moved or was replaced.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “marina,” “fishing boats,” “lifeboat,” “private beach” and “constructed,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make details difficult to interpret, including “castle discused,” “shoers” and “cark par.” Phrases such as “in the west of the map” and “in the road side” are imprecise for describing locations, while “different changes” is too vague for an overview. Aim for accurate, repeated use of location language and choose verbs that distinguish movement from replacement. Proofreading spelling and using standard map collocations would make your descriptions clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms appear in phrases such as “This two maps illustrated” and “a cafe and shops was constructed”; articles and plurals are also unreliable in “there were a marina” and “there were a only lifeboat.” Tense shifts between past and present, for example “in 2000 there were” followed by “at this time,” make the timeline less clear. Several sentences are joined without effective punctuation, which obscures relationships between ideas. Practise a reliable comparison pattern, such as “In 2000, X was located…, whereas today…,” and check subject–verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
