Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the disused castle by a hotel, the conversion of the southern public beach into a private hotel beach, and the relocation of the marina and fishing boats. You also note that the harbour is more developed today. However, the comparison is only partial: the overview is not clearly separated, and some locations are confused or vague—for example, the description of the northern facilities and roads does not reliably explain their positions. The added jetty and the continued public beach in the north-east are omitted. To strengthen the response, give a concise overview of the main transformations, then describe the changes by area using the map’s compass directions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response contains relevant information about both maps and uses basic linking expressions such as “furthermore” and “however.” Nevertheless, ideas are crowded into one long sequence, with no clear paragraphing or progression from an overview to specific changes. Repeated use of “and” and “furthermore” makes relationships between features difficult to follow; for instance, the account of the present-day road, car park, showers, marina, lifeboat and hotel runs together. Some references, such as “opposite side” and “third road,” are unclear. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview and one or two body paragraphs, and group details by location or by changes between 2000 and today.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “marina,” “lifeboat,” “public beach,” “private beach” and “replaced,” which helps convey the map’s main features. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the description imprecise, such as “shower sides,” “second entrance of road” and “who posses the hotel control.” Spelling and word-form errors, including “tiolets,” also reduce clarity. Use precise map language and practise common collocations for describing changes, such as “was relocated to,” “was converted into” and “facilities were added.” Avoid adding unclear claims about who controls the hotel.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, but these structures are often faulty, and sentence boundaries are difficult to identify. For example, “THE GRAPH DOWN ILLUSTRATE PORT IN 2000 and in what manner seems nowadays” has problems with the subject, verb form and clause structure. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent in phrases such as “there is main road” and “castle was replaced with hotels.” Articles and punctuation are frequently missing, so the reader must work to interpret the relationships between features. Practise writing short, complete sentences in the past for 2000 and the present for today, then combine them with accurate clauses such as “whereas” or “while.”
