Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 2.5
The response makes only a minimal attempt to describe the plans. It identifies that there are two diagrams and refers to the harbour in 2000, but it does not explain how the harbour looks today or report the main changes shown, such as the relocation of the marina and fishing boats, the addition of a hotel, or the change to a private beach. The comment that there was “not much place to park extra boats” is vague and does not clearly match a specific feature in the plans. The overview and relevant comparisons are therefore missing. The response is also substantially below the required 150 words, leaving too little space to summarise the key features. To improve, describe the main changes and include a concise overview of how the harbour has been redeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to introduce the task: “There are two diagrams” signals a comparison, followed by a reference to the 2000 plan. However, the response ends after this brief description, so it has no clear progression through the plans and no concluding overview. The ideas are not developed into organised paragraphs, and the relationship between “different information” and “both points” is unclear. The phrase “In order to illustrate…” does not help connect specific features because none follow it. Use a simple structure: introduction, overview, then one or two paragraphs grouping the changes by location or type. Linking expressions such as “By contrast,” and “In addition” can then make the comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response shows a small amount of task-related vocabulary, including “diagrams,” “comparison,” “harbour,” “place to park,” and “boats.” These choices make the general topic recognisable, but the range is too limited to describe the map changes precisely. Phrases such as “different information” and “not look too much modern and busy” are vague or informal, and “extra boats in one time” does not express the intended idea naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “compharison” and “modren,” which reduce accuracy. Build a bank of map vocabulary such as “relocated,” “replaced by,” “converted into,” and “facilities were added,” and use precise labels from the plans to report changes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few sentence forms, but control is uneven and the range is very limited. The opening, “There are two diagrams both have different information,” joins two clauses without suitable punctuation or a linking word. In “In 2000s porth harbor map not look,” the time expression and verb construction are incomplete; a clearer form would be “In 2000, the harbour did not look…” The final sentence also lacks a clear grammatical structure, particularly in “a very small place where not much place to park.” Commas are missing after introductory wording, and the sentences do not consistently show complete, well-formed clauses. Practise accurate simple past and present forms, articles, and complete comparisons before attempting longer sentences.
