Student answer (Band 5.0)
The given process diagram shows the difference between porth harbour in 2000 and now in 2026.
in the diagram we are going to first discuss about west of the porth which is the main road attached with the car park portion just on it there washrom area shown, main road is also attached with the second car park where people parkk their vehicles and just go on by the road to the lifeboat moving on we see passenger feries where people used to sit and can go further to fishing boats area as well above the fishing boats there is marina private yachts coming to the south east area there is a castle and public beach, which is also situated on the north of porth.
now a days porth is not changed too much in contrast to 2000 there are two portions of washrooms now and enterance by the main is connected with the lifeboat just right before there is cafe and shops , lifeboat is also conne ted with the hotel which is just after the private beach for the hotel, coming to the north there is public beach and dock.
Overall, there is not a huge difference but just now we are provided with more facilities as compared to 2000.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant features, including the main road, lifeboat, beaches, hotel, and added cafés and shops. However, the account only partially reports the main changes, and some locations or changes are unclear or inaccurate. For example, you say the marina is “coming to the south east area,” but the key change is that it moves from the northern basin to the southern water area; fishing boats move in the opposite direction. The overview that there is “not a huge difference” also understates the redevelopment, including the hotel replacing the disused castle and the southern beach becoming private. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons of the major changes would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation: you begin with the earlier harbour, then describe the present-day layout, and finish with an overall statement. This gives the reader a basic sense of the comparison. However, the first section strings many details together in one long sentence, and the sequence of locations is difficult to follow. Phrases such as “moving on,” “above,” and “coming to the north” do not consistently clarify how features relate to one another. The second paragraph also shifts between facilities and locations without a clear comparison with 2000. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the two maps, and group changes by area or feature, using precise links such as “whereas” and “in contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “main road,” “car park,” “lifeboat,” “private beach,” and “facilities,” so the basic subject is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings make the description less clear, such as “process diagram” for a pair of maps, “washrom,” “parkk,” and “feries.” Some phrases are also imprecise, including “attached with” and “people used to sit,” which do not describe the map features accurately. Aim for standard map-description language and accurate collocations, such as “located beside,” “was replaced by,” and “the marina was relocated.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms will improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, but these are often difficult to control, and frequent errors affect clarity. For example, “in the diagram we are going to first discuss about west of the porth” has an awkward clause structure and missing grammatical elements. Tense and sentence formation are also inconsistent: “now a days porth is not changed too much” does not clearly express the comparison, while “there are two portions of washrooms now” is not well formed. Capitalisation and punctuation are unreliable, with several sentences beginning in lowercase and long clauses joined without clear punctuation. Practise short, accurate comparative sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking tense, articles, and sentence boundaries.
