Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main transformation clearly: the castle becomes a hotel, the southern beach becomes private, and the fishing boats and marina exchange locations. You also note that the north-eastern public beach remains and that cafés and shops are added. These are relevant comparisons and give the response a clear overview. Some details, however, are inaccurate or unclear: the showers and toilets are not simply increased to twice the original number, and the dock itself is not described as increasing; rather, an additional jetty and a second berthed boat appear. The claim that the marina and fishing boats were in the western part is also imprecise. To strengthen the report, describe the harbour’s key changes more precisely and include the new southern facilities and dock alterations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. The main changes are grouped by topic, and linking words such as “Overall,” “Similarly” and “However” help connect points. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the hotel replacing the castle and the southern beach becoming private are mentioned more than once. Some references are also difficult to follow, particularly “the former” and “the latter,” because the beaches are not consistently identified by location. The overview sentence contains several ideas crowded together, which makes the relationships between them unclear. Organise the details by area or by type of change, and use clear location-based references to make the comparisons easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “harbour,” “public beach,” “private beach,” “Fishing boats” and “Marina,” and you attempt to describe change with phrases such as “altered to” and “constructed.” This gives you enough vocabulary to communicate the main points, but several choices are imprecise or unnatural. For example, “the number of Showers & toilets, Dock is increased” does not accurately express the changes, while “was closed to car parks” appears to mean “close to car parks.” Capitalisation and spacing are inconsistent, and “souther east” is misspelled. Aim for precise location language and natural change verbs, such as “was relocated,” “was converted into” and “was added.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas” and “which,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors in sentence boundaries, articles, agreement and tense control are noticeable. For example, “Overall,Harbour has gone through major transformation” needs clearer punctuation and article use, while “Cafes & shops is also constructed” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an unsuitable verb form. The sentence beginning “Similarly there was only one…” is difficult to control and contains an unclear comparison. Use consistent past-tense descriptions for 2000 and present-tense descriptions for today, and check each sentence for a complete structure, correct articles and agreement.
