Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two time periods and mention some relevant changes, including the relocation of fishing boats and the marina and the addition of facilities. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: the overview is unclear, and several details are inaccurate or incomplete. For example, the marina was not exchanged with fishing boats in a general sense; their locations were switched between the northern and southern water areas. The claim of a “new Dock” is also misleading, as the dock already existed and gained an additional jetty. Most importantly, the final paragraph about today is unfinished, so key changes such as the hotel replacing the castle and the beach becoming private are omitted. The response is also 13 words below the required minimum. Develop a complete overview and report the main changes accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and two contrasting body paragraphs, with “Overall,” “On the one hand,” and “On the other hand” signalling structure. However, the progression breaks down because the first body paragraph ends abruptly at “Meanwhile there were a dock,” and the final paragraph consists only of “On the other hand, today harbour.” As a result, the comparison is not completed and the reader cannot follow the information through to the present-day layout. Some linking is also unclear, as in “two car park and one of them behind the road took to the Lifeboat.” Use complete paragraphs, group features by location or type of change, and ensure each reference clearly identifies the feature being discussed.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “harbour,” “amenities,” “marina,” “fishing boats,” and “Lifeboat,” and you attempt to describe change with “doubling” and “added.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations make the meaning difficult to understand. “Some exchanged some place” does not clearly describe the relocation, while “amenities facilities” is repetitive and “dietibuted” appears to be an unsuccessful attempt at “distributed.” “Cafe shops” and “new Dock” are also imprecise descriptions of the map. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and natural collocations, such as “were relocated,” “facilities,” and “cafés and shops.” Check spelling and avoid repeating the same general terms when a precise feature name is available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer structures, including “Moreover added some amenities in the west” and “For instance, two car park and one of them…,” but control is inconsistent and the response contains frequent errors that sometimes obscure meaning. For example, “The plans illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, and “some changes was did” has an incorrect verb form. The phrase “today harbour” also lacks an article, while “two car park” needs a plural noun. Several sentences are incomplete, particularly “Meanwhile there were a dock” and the final paragraph, which stops after “today harbour.” Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past tense for the 2000 plan and present tense for today. Proofread agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence endings.
