Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change that the harbour has gained more facilities, and you mention several relevant developments, including the hotel, cafés and shops, the private beach, and the exchange of the marina and fishing-boat areas. However, the response does not clearly summarise the main spatial changes or compare the two plans in a systematic way. The claim that there were “two public beach” in 2000 is inaccurate: the southern beach becomes private, while the north-eastern public beach remains. The statement about “no private facilities” is also too broad. To strengthen the overview, state the key changes accurately, then describe the main relocations and additions with their positions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic progression from a general introduction to details about the harbour in 2000 and today, so the reader can follow its overall topic. However, the ideas are grouped into long, crowded sentences rather than clearly organised paragraphs, and the comparison is often repetitive: “more facilities” and “more features and facilities” recur without adding distinct information. Linking phrases such as “while if its compares” do not clearly show the relationship between the two plans. Organise the response into an introduction, a concise overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing specific areas. Use clear links such as “In contrast” or “Meanwhile” to guide the reader through the changes.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “marina,” “fishing boats,” “cafes and shops,” and “private beach,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “changing in Harbour map,” “organization increase too much facilities,” and “special customers.” Repeated use of “facilities” and “more” also makes the description imprecise. Choose vocabulary that describes map changes directly, such as “was relocated,” “was replaced by,” and “was added,” and use “visitors” rather than “special customers.” More precise wording will make the comparisons easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “while,” “and,” and “so,” but these structures are often faulty and make some relationships difficult to follow. There are frequent problems with verb forms and agreement: “the map shows the changing” and “Porth Harbour … have” should use more accurate forms. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “two public beach” and the run-on final sentence. Most sentences rely on basic patterns, with limited accurate control of more complex structures. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine related comparisons using correctly formed clauses and consistent present or past tenses.
