IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend.
Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The longer weekend and the shorter working week for the workers, seems heart touching but I am completely dissent with this.
In essence, its evident that, the nature came into alive in six days and seventh day was considered to be the rest day. Evidently, squeezing of working and activate time frame can develop more cons than pros.
Apparently, it sounds really catchy for a working body to get long weekend and short working week but it can create immense ups and downs in different sectors of life such as technology prevailed the globe and to coop with this its important to work more and rest less.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
Your position is clear: you disagree with a shorter working week, and you briefly suggest that modern technology and different sectors require people to work more. However, the response addresses the question only minimally. The claim that a longer weekend could cause “ups and downs in different sectors of life” is not explained, and there is no specific example or developed reason showing how reduced working time would cause harm. The reference to nature and a seventh-day rest does not clearly support your argument. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, leaving little space to explain and support your position. Develop two relevant reasons and illustrate each with a concrete example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall shape: it states your disagreement, gives a general point, and then adds a further claim about technology and work. Linking expressions such as “In essence,” “Evidently,” and “Apparently” signal movement between ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the connections between the claims are not made explicit. For example, the reference to nature’s six days does not lead clearly to the claim about “squeezing” work and activity, while the final sentence introduces technology without explaining its relationship to longer weekends. The response also lacks developed paragraphs. Organise the essay into an introduction, separate body paragraphs with one main reason each, and a conclusion; use linking phrases to show the actual relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt some topic-related and less common vocabulary, including “working week,” “sectors,” and “technology,” and the reader can identify your general position. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or combinations are unnatural or unclear. “Heart touching” does not naturally describe an appealing proposal; “attractive” or “appealing” would fit better. “Completely dissent with this” is not idiomatic, and “nature came into alive” makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. Phrases such as “working body” and “ups and downs in different sectors of life” are also imprecise. Build a more reliable range of expressions for discussing productivity, employee wellbeing, and economic effects, and check that each phrase is used naturally in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a few attempts at complex sentence structures, including “Apparently, it sounds really catchy … but it can create…” and the clause beginning “to cope with this.” However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation are frequent enough to make parts of the response difficult to interpret. For example, “The longer weekend and the shorter working week for the workers, seems…” has a subject–verb agreement problem and an unnecessary comma. “Its evident that, the nature came into alive” also contains faulty clause punctuation and verb construction. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then combine them with accurate subordinate clauses. Proofread for agreement, articles, and commas, especially around introductory phrases and clauses.
