Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely believed that workers should get short week days and have a longer week. While, many believed that this should not be the case, and the weekend should be shorter. I entirely agree with those who believe that working week should be shorter as it can have many advantages.

The working week should be shorter as it can bring numerous benefits. By having short working week, it can benfit the organization and company. Employes will not be menatlly drained by being at work all day long. For instance, if a worker gets more time to rest, they can feel energetic and mentally satisfied. Then they can bring more energy and more profit to their companies. Hence, a longer weekend leads to an energetic employee which results in the benefit of the oraganization.

Whereas, some people argue that working week should not be shorter. They believe that it can cause damage to their company. Buissnessmen think that their employes can work full week and by having only two days rest they can feel again energetic. However, this perspective overlooks the fact that workers are the backbone of their company. By working all day and full hours, they feel burnout and cannot have their normal lives which can be damaging. So, by keeping the working week shorter, can help to have may benefits.

To sum up, i am of the view that working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend so they do not feel completely exhausted and can enjoy their weekends.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you entirely agree that the working week should be shorter, and you give a relevant reason—rested workers may feel more energetic and benefit their companies. You also acknowledge the opposing view that shorter weeks could harm businesses and respond that exhausted workers may be less effective. However, these ideas are repeated and remain general; the example about a worker having more time to rest is hypothetical rather than specific, and the counterargument could be explored more fully. The response also contains 244 words, six below the required minimum; the 12 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop your reasons with a concrete example and explain more precisely how shorter hours affect productivity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting your view, a paragraph presenting and answering an opposing view, and a conclusion. This makes the overall direction easy to follow. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the first body paragraph restates that a longer weekend benefits workers and companies several times. Some linking expressions are awkward or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas, such as “Whereas” at the start of the counterargument and “Then” before the result. The conclusion also repeats the position without adding a final implication. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each claim to its explanation or example, rather than relying on repeated transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “mentally drained,” “energetic,” “backbone,” and “burnout,” which helps communicate your main points. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “working week,” “benefits,” and “company.” Spelling errors such as “benfit,” “Employes,” “menatlly,” “oraganization,” and “Buissnessmen” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “short week days” and “damage to their company.” Build a more varied set of accurate terms for working hours, employee wellbeing, and productivity, and proofread spelling carefully. More precise collocations would make your argument sound clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional example (“if a worker gets more time to rest”) and a contrast between your view and the opposing position. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur in sentence construction, articles, and punctuation. For example, “While, many believed…” is an incomplete and incorrectly punctuated opening clause, while “By having short working week, it can…” has an unclear subject and is missing an article. The phrase “So, by keeping the working week shorter, can help…” also lacks a grammatical subject. Capitalise “I” in the conclusion and check sentence boundaries. Practise building complete clauses with clear subjects and use articles consistently.
