Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is argued that employees should work fewer hours per week and have longer weekends. I agree that a shorter working week is beneficial because it helps people maintain work-life balance, reduces stress and allows them to spend more time with their families, provided that their income remains sufficient to meet their financial needs.
It is imperative to maintain a work-life balance to be productive at work as well as to reduce stress levels. A study said that when a person works excessive overtime hours, it lowers productivity, reduces quality of work, and deteriorates mental health. Consequently, it is pointless to work more hours when it hampers productivity, which ultimately poses a threat to job security. Additionally, poor mental health raises numerous issues, such as family collisions, which degrade physical health and ultimately lead to a suicide attempt.
On the other hand, having a stable income is very crucial to meet the needs of daily expenses. When there is less income, it also becomes challenging for a person to meet the expectations of a family in various financial areas, such as monthly house rent, paying the electricity bill and car insurance. So an individual should work as many hours as possible to cover the daily expenses of a family while keeping

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it contains only 211 words. This significantly impacts the development of your ideas. While you present a clear position and address the prompt, the final paragraph is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. This prevents a full development of your argument and a proper conclusion. To improve, you must ensure you expand on your supporting points with more detailed examples and ensure the essay is fully completed. The under-length nature of the response means that the task is only partially addressed, as the argument remains unfinished.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and you use some cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'additionally,' and 'on the other hand' to link your ideas. However, the abrupt ending of the final paragraph disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the piece. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the lack of a concluding summary or a finished argument makes the structure feel incomplete. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that you include a clear concluding statement that synthesizes your main points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'imperative,' 'deteriorates,' and 'hampers' effectively. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'family collisions,' which is not a standard collocation for describing domestic conflict. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid slightly unnatural phrasing to improve the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your grammar is generally accurate enough to ensure that your meaning is clear. There are some minor errors, such as the incomplete sentence at the end and the slightly awkward phrasing in the final paragraph. However, these errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, and ensure that all sentences are complete and punctuated correctly.
