Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that, working days should be shorter so that employee will have longer weekend. I completely agree with this view where employees should have a longer weekend so that individuals can have a break from their hectic work life so they don't suffer from a mental pressure.

The primary reason for my opinion is the, people who work longer seems to suffer mentally and physically. To love your work you have to be mentally prepared. While people can have enough rest for their body they can work happily more. For instance, a doctor who does their shift more and 14 hours, they cannot focus for their another operation which may leads to dangerous situation for both doctor and patience. As a result, patience may die and doctor may loose their license for being careless.

Another equally important reason is that, if there is longer weekend, people who are from another county or from another state can travel to meet their friends and family and spent quality time together. In addition they fell loved and their metal health will also not be harmed by over working.

In conclusion, i believe people should have more longer holidays that working shift, so they can enjoy their time with their friends and family and spent quality time over money. to sum up longer the holiday people have, more they will work happily.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the arguments regarding mental health and work-life balance are relevant, they are somewhat under-developed and rely on repetitive phrasing. The example of the doctor is a good attempt at illustration, but the explanation lacks depth. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed analysis and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to allow for a more comprehensive exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary reason,' 'In addition,' and 'In conclusion,' though some transitions feel mechanical or repetitive. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the lack of sufficient length makes the overall structure feel slightly thin. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the internal structure of each paragraph flows more naturally without relying on repetitive sentence starters.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'patience' instead of 'patients,' 'loose' instead of 'lose,' and 'metal' instead of 'mental.' These errors occasionally distract the reader but do not completely impede communication. To improve, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and pay closer attention to spelling and collocations. Expanding your range of synonyms for common words like 'work' or 'happy' would also help demonstrate a higher level of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('people who work longer seems'), article usage, and sentence construction ('a doctor who does their shift more and 14 hours'). These errors are noticeable and occur frequently, though they do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and practice using complex sentence structures with more precision. Reducing the frequency of these errors is essential for achieving a higher band score.
