Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that companies should provide short working week to make weekend more longer. It is agreed that weekend should be long for working people. First I will discuss the economic benefit that can bring to a company and nation and, secondly, its social benefits.

First and foremost, if people work on four days a week will help in different areas like the saving of electricity, commute expenses, traffic congestion, and environment. Besides, more people work on few days in a week will help organisation to reduce the cost of arrangements in the office to make people comfortable for there work. As per the study happened in Oxford university if people will get more time to rest on weekends their productivity got increased with a great number which make this model more effective.

Furthermore, it is not just about the economy, it also has many social benefits. Working people get more time with their family and for socialisation which help to reduce in work stress and making more efficient towards work after a long weekend. For example, if people are getting enough time with the family they are more tend to work actively and reduce their stress level and give good output of the work.

In conclusion, long weekend will help to make environment more effective for work and saving the nature along with work. It is also helping to improve social relation and reduce the stress level of the workers in today's hectic era.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the essay is slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the development of ideas. While the arguments regarding economic and social benefits are relevant, they are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the mention of an 'Oxford university' study is a good attempt at support, but it lacks specific details to fully substantiate the claim. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure your word count meets the minimum requirement to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between the economic benefits and the social benefits could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the internal structure of your paragraphs flows more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'traffic congestion,' 'productivity,' and 'socialisation.' However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'make weekend more longer' (should be 'make the weekend longer') and 'more tend to work' (should be 'more inclined to work'). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid repeating basic words like 'work' and 'people' too frequently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' environment), prepositions ('in' Oxford university), and verb forms ('productivity got increased'). Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to these errors, such as 'if people work on four days a week will help.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
