Student answer (Band 6.5)

These day, if we talk about length of working days should be minimum and weekends longer, depend on the job because different institute offer different work. And different people have different needs and finencial status so they can work whenever they want . but i completely agree with this statement and in this essey i will support my opinion with examples.

Firstly, i will in support f this statement becauce in my opinion employees work from morning to evening on working days on daily bases, this can exhaust their mind if they keep working longer then their brain will stop functioning properly by the end of weekend. it can impact their performace. for example school teachers needs lecture prepration time will fully focus on students more energetically. so their brain needs recovery time.

Another reason why i agree with this statement employees should get leasure time to spend with their families as in daily busy routin they donot get enough time for their kids and other family member as a child need attention of both of his or her parents to grow. for example, my aunt is a bank manager, she has busy working schedule , but also she is married and have kids if she dont give her children time they become so much frustrated because of lack of proper time from their parents as both aunt and uncle doing their job.

And i strongly believe that families are important part of our lives, we should have to take our families on a long trips to spend a quality time with then this is only possible if weekends should be longer.

On the other hand, some jobs like doctors, nursing can have shorter weekends as emergency situations needs them. accidents can happen anytime so emergency wards should be open. so they can approach us anytime.

although it is common believe that people needs time to charge thamselves for better working and familytime. Their should be no restriction on number of working days. personally I need more holidays.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons, such as mental exhaustion and the importance of family time, to support your argument. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding the bank manager is a bit anecdotal and could be more effectively linked to the broader societal benefits of a shorter work week. While you acknowledge the counter-argument regarding essential services, the discussion remains somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are more thoroughly explained and connected to the main thesis, rather than relying on personal anecdotes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Another reason', and 'On the other hand' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition between the discussion of teachers and the shift to family time feels abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, which disrupts the logical progression of your ideas. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your opinions clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'exhaust', 'performance', and 'emergency situations'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'finencial', 'essey', 'leasure', 'routin', and 'thamselves'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader. To improve, you should focus on mastering the spelling of common academic vocabulary and attempt to use more precise collocations. For example, instead of 'brain will stop functioning', you might use 'cognitive fatigue' or 'diminished productivity'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('school teachers needs', 'she dont give'), article usage, and sentence boundaries. Many sentences are fragmented or run together, which makes the text harder to follow. While you attempt complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency. Reducing the number of run-on sentences by using appropriate punctuation will significantly improve the clarity and quality of your writing.
