Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, there has been a debate whether working week should get shorter to have employees long weekend. I strongly agree with this idea because it can develop employees better health, keep them relaxed and calm.

One of the main advantages of a shorter working week is that it improves employees' physical and mental health. Many people experience stress, fatigue, and burnout due to long working hours and limited time for rest. Having an extra day off each week allows workers to relax, spend time with their families, pursue hobbies, and recover from work-related pressure. As a result, they are likely to return to work feeling refreshed and more motivated. For example, several companies that have introduced a four-day working week have reported higher levels of employee satisfaction and lower rates of absenteeism.

Another reason to support shorter working time is that it can increase productivity. Although employees works for few days so they need to manage time and complete their work more dedicately and do hardwork so that they can crack deadline.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 174 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is cut short before a conclusion can be provided. While the position is clear and the arguments regarding health and productivity are relevant, they are not fully extended or supported due to the lack of length. To improve, you must ensure you provide a full introduction, two or three well-developed body paragraphs with specific examples, and a clear concluding summary to fully address all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a basic logical flow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'One of the main advantages' and 'Another reason', which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the paragraphing is incomplete because the essay ends abruptly in the middle of the second body paragraph. The lack of a concluding paragraph further weakens the overall structure. To achieve a higher band, ensure you use a wider range of linking words and transition phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, and always include a clear conclusion that restates your position.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'absenteeism', 'burnout', and 'productivity'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'develop employees better health' (should be 'improve employees' health') and 'do hardwork' (which is not a standard collocation). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a slightly wider range of academic vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility and control over your word choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'whether working week should get shorter' (missing articles), 'employees works' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'more dedicately' (incorrect adverb form). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they do prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading your work for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage to ensure your writing is more accurate.
