Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that workers work for too many days in one week and should be given more days of rest and longer weekends. I fully agree with this statement.
Firstly, longer weekends will allow workers to be well rested before going back to work the next week. This will reduce fatigue which will in-turn lead to better productivity at work. Working more might bear better results short term but in the long term, it will be less beneficial to both the workers and the economy as a tired body and mind will lose productivity as the days go by. This enforces my opinion on the topic.
Secondly, shorter work weeks will lead to an improvement in workers' mental health. Too much work takes a toll on both the physical and mental which eventually leads to stress. Stress inevitably leads to depression making it almost impossible for a worker to focus on their job. A depressed and demotivated worker might be more harmful than useful as they are more prone to mistakes that lead to accidents in the workplace. This further reinforces my stance on the arguement.
In conclusion, although longer work weeks might be better in the short term, shorter work weeks and longer weekends are definitely better in the long run.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas regarding productivity and mental health are relevant, they are not fully developed with specific examples or evidence, which is expected at higher bands. The conclusion is also quite brief. To improve, you should expand on your points by providing concrete examples, such as mentioning specific industries or studies, and ensure you meet the word count to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the flow between sentences could be more sophisticated. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing is functional but basic. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that the relationship between ideas is more fluidly connected throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'productivity', 'fatigue', and 'demotivated'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. There is also a minor spelling error ('arguement'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and less common vocabulary to demonstrate a wider range. For example, instead of 'better results', you could use 'enhanced performance' or 'optimal outcomes'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are grammatically sound, and errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. You successfully use conditional structures and relative clauses. However, to achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate more consistent control over a wider variety of complex grammatical forms. Ensure that you proofread for minor slips, such as the phrasing 'in-turn' (which should be 'in turn') and 'takes a toll on both the physical and mental' (which requires a noun like 'health' after 'mental').
