Student answer (Band 6.0)

The week days should be shorter and weekends should be extended. I am fully disagree with this statement and my views will be initiated in further paragraph.

If we extend the weekends and shorten the week days so that it gives demand to many things like, if a company give their workers a extra weekend due to that the workers become lazy so that the productivity of the company will fall due to that the income which company generate will also go in loss which gives impact on the GDP and economy of the country and the new work force the new generation also become lazy which give effect on the whole world because of just more weekend.

Secondly, longer weekend is not beneficial for all the workers because some workers get pay on hourly basis. If the number of hours get less they do not get pay enough for their family they do not complete the requirements of there family and they do not support their family. And for some people who work for more hours on weekend also for there savings like to buy house, car for the family some have a children they are saving money for there future everything will get shutdown because of longer weekends.

In conclusion, i am fully disagree of the statement. As longer weekends give more free time for their work life balance but it is not good for economy of the country and for the individual also as they get lazy and productivity declines.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against shortening the working week. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The argument relies heavily on the assertion that workers will become 'lazy' and that productivity will inevitably fall, without providing concrete examples or nuanced reasoning. The points regarding hourly-paid workers are relevant, but the overall argument lacks depth and fails to explore the counter-arguments or the broader implications of the topic in a sophisticated manner. The response stays on topic, but the ideas are somewhat underdeveloped, which limits the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between and within them is often mechanical and repetitive. The use of cohesive devices is limited, with phrases like 'due to that' and 'because of' appearing frequently, which makes the text feel somewhat disjointed. While there is a clear introduction and conclusion, the progression of ideas is hindered by the repetitive sentence structure and the lack of varied linking words. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall logical flow would benefit from more sophisticated transitions to connect the arguments more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas effectively. Words like 'lazy', 'work', and 'money' are used repeatedly. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'gives demand to many things' and 'everything will get shutdown'. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the basic message, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. To improve, you should focus on using more academic synonyms and collocations related to economics and employment.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures and contains frequent grammatical errors. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'some have a children'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing that occasionally impedes readability. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are often faulty or run-on, such as the long, repetitive sentence in the second paragraph. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score.
