Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some people believe that there should be a shorter working week so that employees can get a longer weekend to have more personal time. I, strongly agree with this statement because it is beneficial for both employees and employers at the same time with unnoticeable drawbacks.
One of the major advantage of having a shorter working week, such as 4 weekdays, enable people to spend more time with their families and allow them to refresh their mind. If employees get an additional day off, they can allocate more time to their personal hobbies, entertainment or resting at their home. Moreover, this helps to reduce the stress levels and promote their overall well being which ultimately improves their performance and creates a positive environment at work.
In addition, although, working less hours might feel loss of business to employers, this eventually helps to boost productivity of the employees resulting in company's growth. Having three day off enables workforce to relax their mind so that they can concentrate better on their work during weekdays. For example, a study conducted by local tech companies, who initiated shorter working week, in the UK revealed that there was almost 25% increase in efficiency of workers which bought a good return to the business.
However, this strategy also have some drawbacks as it is hard to implement in every work setting such as emergency service providers including healthcare and police. These jobs require employees to work longer shifts to better assist the public, although, this can managed by initiatives like rotating shifts and promoting company based entertainment activities.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that companies should initiate shorter work week because this helps to improve health and productivity of the employees which in return boosts the company's growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of a shorter working week. The ideas are relevant and supported by a specific example regarding UK tech companies. However, the development is somewhat uneven; while the benefits are well-explained, the counter-argument regarding emergency services is introduced but not fully integrated into the overall argument. The conclusion reinforces the main position effectively. To reach a higher band, ensure that the counter-argument is more thoroughly addressed or balanced against the main thesis to demonstrate a more nuanced perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, such as the benefits for employees or the impact on productivity. Cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'However' are used to link ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother, particularly when transitioning from the benefits to the limitations of the proposed policy.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language such as 'efficiency', 'workforce', and 'emergency service providers'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'feel loss of business' (should be 'perceive a loss of business') and 'bought a good return' (should be 'brought a good return'). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precise or sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are recurring grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('this strategy also have', 'one of the major advantage') and punctuation errors, particularly the unnecessary commas in 'I, strongly agree' and 'although, working less hours'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
