Student answer (Band 6.5)

Work has been regarded as the most important aspect of society. Positive and smart work is contributing to a society not only by economic development but also by individual satisfaction. Although different perspectives exist on this topic, I firmly believe that sustainable and balanced approach is necessary for the community well-being. The recommended point has both pros and cons.

On the one hand, supporters of this view point argue that the working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. There are many advantages of this argument such as worker will show focused behaviour during their duty timinings, they will remain psychologically active and calm, they can enjoy much time with their family that is the major factor of gentle parenting, they can engage in many other healthy activities and learning new skills, they can easily balance their routine between family and employment, working environment becomes more cooperative, their health become improved, fuel and transport burden will be reduced on the nation. Therefore, national economy will flourish.

On the other hand, opponents of this statement contend that workers become more relaxed and lazy. The whole work and production of any employer will be reduced. Institutions and employment organizations can not manage their tasks effectively because creativity is decreased due to wasting of much time. Consequently, nation cannot meet the challanges of world.

In conclusion, however both advantages and disadvantages have considerable merit, I remain convinced that there should be balanced schedule according to the work burden of any working area to achieve both societal and world goals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you list many advantages in the second paragraph, they are presented as a long, comma-separated list rather than being developed into coherent arguments with supporting evidence or examples. The position is clear, but the conclusion is slightly vague, suggesting a 'balanced schedule' without clearly defining what that entails in relation to the prompt. To improve, focus on selecting two or three strong points and expanding on them with logical reasoning or real-world examples rather than providing a laundry list of benefits.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the internal cohesion within the second paragraph is weak; the long list of points lacks logical flow and transition words to connect the ideas. Additionally, some referencing is slightly mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that each sentence flows naturally into the next using a variety of linking words and ensure that your paragraphing serves to group related ideas more effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant terms such as 'economic development', 'psychologically active', and 'cooperative'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'gentle parenting' (which is not contextually relevant to a general working week discussion) and 'duty timinings' (which is non-standard). The range is somewhat limited, and there is a lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary that would elevate the tone of the essay. Focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'their health become improved' (should be 'becomes') and 'nation cannot meet the challanges' (missing article 'the'). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and pluralization throughout the text. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
