Student answer (Band 6.0)

I would completely disagree and strongly condemn the given statement and argue that, the working week should not be shorter and workers should'nt necessarily have a longer weekend. Due to this owners might suffer a lot. They might face loss in their business and labour shortage as the work gets piled up, while the workers take a long weekend.

In my opinion, companies and business owners might face a lot of challanges rather than the workers. Due to more work and less people, work load becomes huge. Work that must be done today gets delayed eventually. More work will get piled where, eventually the company might not meet the deadlines. And due to this the company or business might face a loss. The work ethics are getting disrupted.

Rather than that, the companies and business owners should be giving workers more leisure time so that they do not get stressed about work. Work life balance must be taken care by the companies. The work must be shared equally so that they get to finish the work in time and get the weekend as well. Moreover, workers must be guarenteed leaves when required.

In conclusion, I think the companies and business owners must start implementing new laws that are beneficial to the workers, where workers are shared the work equally, and give leisure times to relax in between work so that they do not stress about their work. This way work-life is balnced well for the workers as well as the owners.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt, but the position is somewhat contradictory. While you initially state you 'completely disagree' with a shorter working week, your subsequent paragraphs argue for better work-life balance and leisure time, which actually aligns with the prompt's premise. This inconsistency makes your overall stance unclear. The ideas regarding business losses and workload are relevant, but they are not fully developed with specific examples or logical depth. To improve, ensure your position is consistent throughout the essay and provide more detailed explanations for your arguments rather than repeating the same points about workload and stress.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression between ideas is sometimes weak. For example, the transition from discussing business losses to suggesting that companies should provide more leisure time feels abrupt and contradictory to your initial disagreement. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive (e.g., 'Due to this', 'And due to this'). To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows naturally from the previous one, maintaining a clear, unified argument throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'work', 'business', and 'workers' repeatedly. There are also some minor spelling errors, such as 'challanges' and 'guarenteed'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'productivity', 'operational efficiency', 'employee well-being', or 'stipulated deadlines'. Using more precise synonyms will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact, moving beyond simple, repetitive language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Examples include 'work-life balance must be taken care by the companies' (should be 'taken care of') and 'where workers are shared the work equally' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice. Proofreading for small errors like 'should'nt' (shouldn't) and 'balnced' (balanced) will also help improve your accuracy and overall presentation.
