Student answer (Band 6.5)
In this highly competitive era, the working weeks are become hectic and exhausting for people. Therefore, some people believe that the working week should be shorter. However, I disagree with this perspective. This essay will give the reasons for my view.
On the one hand, it is irrefutable that people need to work hard and smart to achieve more. That is why, for all the ambitious person the longer working week can not be problematic. As it provides lot of benefits. At first, it helps people to stay connected and focused in their work. In many cases, it has been seen that when people came back from a trip or a holiday, they are not focused and if the working week has become shorter than this might be the reason of their distraction. Moreover, as the employees are working longer or spending more time on their work, the production will get increased and once the production increase their salary or income will also get increased. Also, the increased production can contribute to create better impact on economy.
On the other hand, the people who are not so ambitious, they usually prefers shorter working weeks. There are some demerits of it such as, it distracts the employees or a workers which results in the lower production rate. As a result, the company could make losses and if it happens on a large scale then it can create an impact on overall economy as well.
In conclusion, for relaxation and refreshment shorter working week can be helpful. but to cope with this competitive era, I believe that the longer working week could be helpful as it contains lot of benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against shorter working weeks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention productivity and economic impact, the arguments are repetitive and lack specific, real-world examples to support your claims. For instance, you mention that shorter weeks lead to distraction, but this point could be better supported with a concrete example or a more detailed explanation of why this occurs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is fully extended with logical reasoning and illustrative evidence rather than just stating the same point in different ways.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the logical progression is slightly disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'if it happens on a large scale', where the antecedent is not explicitly defined. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'irrefutable', 'ambitious', and 'competitive era'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'production will get increased' (should be 'productivity will increase') and 'create better impact' (should be 'have a positive impact'). There is also some repetition of basic words like 'work' and 'people'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and avoid relying on generic verbs like 'get' or 'make' when more specific alternatives are available.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('the working weeks are become', 'employees... prefers'), article usage ('the production'), and tense inconsistencies. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Additionally, try to vary your sentence structures further by using more complex subordinating clauses to demonstrate greater control.
