Student answer (Band 6.0)

As today work plays a significant role in humans life to earn money. Most people argue that working days should be shorter and employers should have a longer weekend. This essay agrees with this statement but its merits can not be ignored anymore .

First of all, working for longer days does not have any demerit but working continuously is no longer good as employers should have more weekends as they had. As employers too want to spent their time with their families . they have a lot of burden of their family and their children. For instance, working for long days could decrease the bonding with their family and children also they would not get time to spend it with friends and go for outing. they should have long weekends to fulfill their house hold works too which can not be ignored.

Secondly, having long weekends does not mean that employers should take off from their work too , along with long holidays or weekends they should work from home for Atleast two to four hours to go with the flow of work and can complete their work time to time . For example, most of the workers spend a long weekends at their house also complete their office work . However, working week should be shorter for employers to get a break from long work hours but they should no6t ignore the work of their office too.

To conclude, I strongly believe that employers must need a break from working hours but work should not be ignored during weekends

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, though the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. You argue for shorter working weeks but then introduce a contradictory point about working from home during weekends, which confuses the central argument. While you provide reasons such as family bonding and household chores, the explanation is repetitive and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure your main ideas are fully extended with specific, logical examples rather than repeating the same points about 'work-life balance' in different ways. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarize the main arguments presented in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'First of all' is followed by a paragraph that lacks a clear logical flow, and the use of 'However' in the second body paragraph is confusing given the context. Referencing is also problematic; you frequently use 'employers' when you clearly mean 'employees' or 'workers', which creates confusion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their intended subjects would significantly improve the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There is a persistent error in word choice: you use 'employers' (the people who hire) when you mean 'employees' (the people who work). This is a significant issue that affects the clarity of your argument. You rely on basic vocabulary like 'good', 'long', and 'work', and there is little attempt to use less common or idiomatic language. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to employment and work-life balance, and be careful to distinguish between similar-sounding or related professional terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'employers... want to spent'), incorrect verb forms, and punctuation errors, such as placing periods before commas. The sentence structure is often repetitive, and the misuse of 'employers' versus 'employees' creates grammatical confusion throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors would be beneficial.
