Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. The ideas are relevant, focusing on stress reduction and increased productivity. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The claim regarding 520,000 youngsters committing suicide is a significant over-generalization and lacks a credible link to the topic of working hours, which weakens the argument's logical foundation. While the main points are clear, the supporting evidence is occasionally hyperbolic or imprecise. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are supported by more logical, realistic reasoning rather than extreme statistics that may distract from the core argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'as the consequences are also unite hurdle' and 'this total show that' are confusing and disrupt the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences is occasionally abrupt. While there is an overall logical arrangement, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the presence of awkward phrasing mean that the cohesion is not always smooth or effective.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'working at the week should be lesser', 'initial amount of anxiety', and 'fresher mind people'. The student attempts to use more academic vocabulary, such as 'contemporary epoch' and 'efficacy', but these are often used incorrectly or in unnatural contexts. To improve, the student should focus on learning common collocations and ensuring that words are used in the correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('it provide', 'longer weekend have'), article usage, and sentence fragments. Punctuation is also problematic, with several run-on sentences and missing commas. While the meaning is usually discernible, the high frequency of grammatical errors requires the reader to work harder to understand the intended message. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve the clarity of the writing.
