Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent years, the idea of reducing the working week has become a popular topic. I completely agree that working week should be shorter and people should get a longer weekend because it can improve health and also increase productivity.
The main reason for supporting a shorter working week is its positive effects on people's health and family life. Now a days people feel exhausted and tired by doing too much work all over the week. They work five to six days a week. This leads to stress, lack of sleep and mental and physical health problems. If people get three days off per week rather than 1 or 2, they could have less stress and
they could also spend quality time with their family. As a result they would be both mentally and physically healthier.
Another reason is that if people have longer weekend they would be able to do their work with more energy and productive. Their minds would be fresh after spending quality time with their family and this leads to more work in the job. When employees work too many days, their focus and energy levels drop by the end of the week. However if they know they have to work only four days they are likely to be more motivated and efficient during these days. In fact, several companies in countries like Iceland and Japan have already tested 4 days work and reported the output remained the same or increased in some cases.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that a shorter working week with a longer weekend is beneficial.
It not only leads to a healthier and happier workforce but also helps companies by improving their efficiency.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas regarding health, family life, and productivity are relevant and well-supported with logical explanations and real-world examples, such as the mention of Iceland and Japan. The development is sufficient, though the conclusion is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, the student could expand slightly more on the counter-arguments or the long-term societal implications of a shorter working week to demonstrate a more nuanced perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the health benefits and the productivity benefits is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'The main reason', 'Another reason', and 'In fact' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, some linking phrases are slightly repetitive, and the paragraphing could be more sophisticated. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'workforce', 'efficiency', and 'motivated'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'do their work with more energy and productive' (should be 'productively') and 'all over the week' (should be 'throughout the week'). While the range is sufficient, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. The student should focus on collocations and word forms to improve accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'Now a days' should be 'Nowadays', and 'tested 4 days work' is missing an article or noun phrase (e.g., 'a four-day work week'). There are also occasional issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage. Despite these errors, the grammar does not impede communication, and the student demonstrates a reasonable command of complex structures.
