Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays, people argue that working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. In my opinion, i strongly agree with this statement because people should want a free time for themselves.
To begin with, employees should have leisure time for themselves as well as for family, also for their daily responsibility. This is for self-care, clinic appointment , cooking. shopping, and give some times to their children. People gets bored because all the times they are working in office, handling calls, as well as, taking their home responsibility. this can issues their healthcare, such as headache, migraine and body pain. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 113 words long. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the body paragraph is underdeveloped and ends abruptly without a conclusion or a completed example. To achieve a higher band, you must expand your arguments with detailed explanations and relevant examples, ensuring the essay reaches the required length. The current response is too brief to fully address the prompt, leading to a significant penalty in this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay shows a basic attempt at organization with an introduction and a body paragraph. However, the lack of a conclusion and the incomplete nature of the text hinder the overall flow. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover'. The progression of ideas is interrupted by the unfinished sentence at the end. To improve, you should focus on creating a clear structure with a logical introduction, well-developed body paragraphs that follow a clear topic sentence, and a summary conclusion that reinforces your main position.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'people should want' and 'taking their home responsibility'. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'this can issues their healthcare' (should be 'this can affect their health'). To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to work-life balance and labor economics. Expanding your vocabulary will help you express your ideas with more sophistication and clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'people argue that working week should be' (missing article 'the'), 'i strongly agree' (capitalization error), and 'this job do not cover' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors impacts the overall quality. Focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, article usage, and consistent punctuation to improve your accuracy.
