Student answer (Band 6.0)
The following statement that the working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend is a two way statement which one could support either way or oppose.
To support the argument, the reason for having longer weekends and shorter working week for workers can be that this can allow a boost in performance. By having more rest time the workers will have more stress free time where they will be away from their employment work. This allows them to spend time with their families, enjoy, and then have the energy to return to work fresh which will leas to an increase in productivity.
A shorter working week will reduce burden on employees as well which is directly relate proportionally to their well being and performance. if a working week normally is 6 days a week, a shorter may be 4 which is a significant decrease in hours working. This can help to get the feeling that there is less time working and more for ones self which will help.
A longer weekend will allow more family time, and more self enjoyment.
However there was many consequences of this if it were to be implemented, firstly companies will suffer as they will have fewer days to run the business per week, with shorter working days the number of days workers work is reduced which means there wont be employees for more days hence will result in the inability to run the business. This will lead to loss of sales, less tax to government and damage the economy instead. With more days of the consumers may not be able to get services for more days which can lea to crowded service in the likes of for example a hair salon or a grocery shop, which will lead to chaos. Furthermore there will be strain on employees as rather then having the consumers and work divided over more days, with less days more customers will come which will increase demand, create chaos and lead to more workload.
A longer weekend will benefit but if there are no employees then how will people enjoy their weekends? People won't be able to go to places as they may be closed due to no employees available and extra off days rather then a traditional Sunday.
In my view the working week should not be shorter nor should workers get longer weekends since this can lead to losses for businesses, a loss of enjoyment for families with less days to get services, increased workload and damage to the economy. Furthermore it isn't clear by how much is the working week reduced, if its one day the harm would be less however if more then one then the damage can be severw

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the proposal. The ideas are relevant, discussing both the potential benefits for employees and the negative impacts on businesses and the economy. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument regarding 'chaos' in service industries is mentioned multiple times without providing specific, well-supported examples. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining the stance throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To support the argument,' 'However,' and 'Furthermore,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'The following statement that... is a two way statement.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression of ideas feels a bit disjointed at times due to repetitive phrasing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'work,' 'days,' and 'employees.' While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'productivity,' 'economy,' 'implemented'), the range is limited. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'leas to' (leads to) and 'relate proportionally to their well being.' To improve, the student should focus on using more precise synonyms and varied collocations to express complex ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'there was many consequences') and punctuation errors. Some sentences are clunky or grammatically incomplete, such as 'with more days of the consumers may not be able to get services.' While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall clarity. A greater focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining complex sentence construction would significantly improve the score.
