Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many people are working longer hours and it creates stress, work pressure and other health problems. By giving longer weekends can get relief from these problem. This essay will argue that I strongly agree with this statement.

To begin with, many people are facing work pressure, stress and other health problem. These problems has created a worst nightmare for the workers. The people who is working for long hours can make them experience these problems. As a result the main authorities has to reduce the work time and give more weekends. For example, a person who is working for hours and feels stress and if the managers planed to give longer weekends he can relief the stress by going for a small trip with friends. By this way they can find relief.

Furthermore, people working for hours can also make them feels alone because they cannot meet their family, as s result it can make them very disappointed. Moreover, they cannot join to his own family function. Additionally, if they have children they cannot enjoy with them if they do not have longer weekends. For instance, a individual who has no longer weekends can make him extremely depressed because he cannot spend time with his children's or family.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that workers should have longer weekends. Working for long hours can cause stress, work pressure and health problems , while longer weekends can help people relax and spend more time with their family and friends. Therefore, workers should have to provide longer weekends to improve workers overall health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument regarding stress and family time is mentioned in both body paragraphs without significant expansion or new insights. The examples provided, such as 'going for a small trip', are relevant but remain quite general. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the broader implications of a shorter working week, such as potential impacts on productivity or economic consequences, rather than focusing solely on personal stress relief.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'The people who is working for long hours can make them experience these problems'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on a limited set of words, such as 'problems', 'stress', and 'work pressure', which are repeated frequently. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'give more weekends' instead of 'provide longer weekends' or 'give more time off'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and topic-specific collocations, such as 'work-life balance', 'mental well-being', or 'professional burnout', to demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people are working', 'These problems has created', 'The people who is working') and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'if the managers planed', 'he can relief the stress'). Additionally, there are errors with pluralization, such as 'children's' instead of 'children'. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and tense consistency is essential.
