Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that workers should have a longer weekend, with a shorter working week. I firmly agree with the argument, and this essay will discuss about its reasons that although it decreases work tasks done by workers as a short working time, it can increase productivity because workers will come back with better energy and confidence.

Workers should take a longer weekend, because it is difficult to manage hectic routine with their personal life that can create pressure and mental disturbance, and eventually it can affect productivity of their work. Longer weekends can provide them adequate time for their personal tasks, and give them time to relax, and do some entertainment that can alleviate their stress and workload. Therefore, they can come back at work with more energy and confidence with mental peace that can increase task achievements with better feedbacks.

The other important reason for a long weekend to workers is that it can provide them quality time with family, so they can balance their work and family life together. For example many worker working long weeks and unable to spend time with family that affect their mental well-being, so they cannot able to work properly at workplace. Adequate time for family can help them to balance their both life that can reduce their anxiety and help them to improve productivity.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that workers should have a longer weekend, because it can assist them to increase their ability to work, as they have energy and confidence after having enough time for relax on weekends and also they can get better time to spend with family to balance their work and family life together.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding productivity, mental well-being, and work-life balance are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay tends to be somewhat repetitive in its phrasing, particularly regarding the benefits of 'energy and confidence.' While the ideas are supported, they could be further extended with more specific examples or nuanced analysis to reach a higher band. The introduction and conclusion are clear, but the overall development is slightly limited in depth, keeping it firmly within the Band 6 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'therefore,' 'the other important reason,' and 'for example' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and sophistication. The student relies on basic terms like 'work,' 'time,' and 'life' repeatedly. There are some inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'better feedbacks' (feedback is uncountable) and 'do some entertainment' (which is unnatural). While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common lexical items or idiomatic language that would be required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'discuss about' (discuss is transitive), 'cannot able to' (a mix of can and be able to), and 'balance their both life' (incorrect determiner usage). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The punctuation is generally functional, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent, with some awkward phrasing that affects the overall fluency of the writing.
