Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been an upward trend towards increased working hours of the workplaces. I firmly agree with the view to a great extent that the working week should be shortened, although there are some exceptions. This essay will support my opinion with possible logical reasons.
To begin with, there are a few drawbacks which could be the consequences of having an extended weekend. For instance, the overall economy of a country is dependent on numerous types of businesses, reducing the working hours could negatively impact the economy which leads to unexpected inflation across the country. Furthermore, reduced working hours would affect the profit rates of the current businesses which largely contribute to the overall economy.
In contrast, a shortened working week could impact positively on the individuals in numerous ways. It could provide a sufficient amount of extra time that could be spent with family or the loved ones to strengthen the bonds. Moreover, people's personal choices and interests also should be considered. Extended weekend could encourage the individuals to follow their personal passions which they had lost due to excessive working hours at the workplace. In addition, the overall creativity of people could be enhanced by longer vacations. There has been research done that there is a direct connection between boredom and creativity which can be acquired by making yourself bored intentionally.
In conclusion, although this trend is disadvantageous to the economy and businesses, there are more benefits of this trend which are considerable factors such as extra time for strengthening the bonds, following personal passion and improved creativity also should be considered. I firmly agree with the statement that working week should be shorter.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. You acknowledge the counter-argument regarding economic impact before presenting your own arguments for a shorter work week. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between 'boredom' and 'creativity' is an interesting point, but it is not fully connected to the core argument of a shorter work week in a way that is entirely convincing. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is more thoroughly explained with concrete examples or logical elaboration rather than just listing benefits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'In contrast', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some of the transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing economic drawbacks to personal benefits is clear, but the internal structure of the second paragraph could be improved to ensure that each sentence builds more effectively on the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'unexpected inflation', and 'considerable factors'. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'increased working hours of the workplaces', which sounds unnatural; 'increased working hours in the workplace' would be better. You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but there is room for more precision and variety to move into the higher bands. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without any significant impediment to the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips. For example, 'reducing the working hours could negatively impact the economy which leads to' should be 'which would lead to' for better tense consistency. Additionally, 'There has been research done that there is a direct connection' is slightly clunky; 'Research has shown that there is a direct connection' would be more concise and accurate. You have good control over basic structures, but more variety in complex sentence forms would improve your score.
