Student answer (Band 6.0)

The days which people rest from work should be more than the days they work, maybe to bound with family, rest and take care of one self, and also do what they love doing.

On one hand, bounding is one thing that is not really being taken serious because parents spend most of their time at work trying to fend for the family. If parents are allowed to have more time to rest instead of working, they will have the time to create connection with their children, know the kind of like the children are living and also give the children the opportunity to talk to the parents about what they need. For example, when i was working full time, i rarely had the chance to know about the well-being of my children which made then not to be too close to me but when i got a part time job, i started taking care of my children properly.

Also, taking care of yourself. Working too much places your health at risk, too much of work is not good for the body because your body needs good rest to gain energy and function well. I have a friend who got sick because of lack of rest from work and now he is no longer able to work.

On the other hand, when there is not enough time to time to work, the company will not flow well and also will not be able to deliver their work easily and when there is a delay, things might get damaged. For instance, there was a time in my country when workers were not allowed to work for long and it affected the transportation and hospitals which led to death.

In summary, in as much as works are needed to be done to put some things in place, there should also make a way to let workers have some rest and take care of their self.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the benefits of a shorter work week and the potential drawbacks. However, the position is not consistently maintained throughout the essay. While you provide relevant arguments, some ideas are under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding the negative impact on hospitals and transportation is a good point, but it lacks specific detail to fully support the claim. To improve, ensure that your introduction clearly states your position and that each body paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the consequences of your argument, rather than relying on brief personal anecdotes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'Also', and 'In summary' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'know the kind of like the children are living'. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between your personal examples and your general arguments is smoother and more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and lacks precision. You frequently use simple phrasing like 'do what they love doing' or 'things might get damaged'. While your meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there are some awkward collocations, such as 'bounding' instead of 'bonding' and 'the company will not flow well'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to labor, economics, and social well-being to demonstrate a more flexible range of language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and word forms (e.g., 'take care of one self', 'works are needed to be done'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, specifically ensuring that verbs agree with their subjects and that you are using the correct forms of nouns and pronouns consistently.
