Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely believed that workdays should be shortened and weekends should be longer in period. However many people argue about that workdays should not be shorten. But, I strongly believe that longer weekends can make employees more productive and it will also help them to maintain a pleasing relationship with their loved ones.
To begin with, I support shorter work period because it enables individuals to spend quality time with their family. Demanding work can lead to mental and physical health issues and in some cases burnout. A longer weekend can relieve employees from their hectic schedule. It will give them some personal time to pursue other activities such as following their hobbies. People can also take a short trip during that time or change the environment for some time, which will make workers more productive.
In addition, some people live far from their family for work purposes. They can not go to their home meet their family. But on weekend they can get enough time to meet them. Besides that, individuals can go to their relatives house or to their grandparents house who do not live with them and make some unforgettable memories like cooking together. Shorter workdays also benefit both the environment and the economy. For example, in weekdays most people love to stay at home which indicate less usage of transports also less emission of carbon dioxide, which will protect our environment. Furthermore, less transport usage will save money for both employees and the government because of lower use of coal and oil.
Admittedly, if one were to argue for longer weekdays, the only reason would be, after the Covid-19 pandemic, companies all over the world facing financial crises, longer working weeks might help them to get over it. Moreover, some developing industries, new startup or hospitals may face difficulties because of longer days off.
Overall, I personally support longer days off to give jobholders their own personal time and to be more productive.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding productivity, mental health, and family time are relevant and well-supported. However, the argument regarding the environment is slightly tangential and lacks a strong logical link to the core topic of working hours. While the ideas are extended, some points, such as the economic impact of carbon dioxide emissions, could have been more tightly focused on the specific benefits of a shorter work week. Overall, the response is well-developed and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for example, the transition between the environmental argument and the economic argument is a bit abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more smoothly to enhance the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use less common items like 'hectic schedule', 'burnout', and 'financial crises'. However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'longer weekends can make employees more productive' (which is clear but could be more precise) and 'longer weekend can relieve employees from their hectic schedule'. While the range is sufficient, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'many people argue about that workdays should not be shorten' (should be 'shortened') and 'They can not go to their home meet their family' (missing preposition/conjunction). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are occasional errors in sentence construction. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The writer demonstrates a reasonable command of grammar, but more consistent accuracy in complex structures is needed.
