Student answer (Band 5.5)

In todays fast-paced world, most of people can find enough spare time. Some companies have long working hours and other people interest to do overtime to earn more. Thus some individuals believe that the working days should be made short and have a long weekend. I do not agree with this statement.

To commence with, in week there are five working days and remaining two consider as weekend in which the work is less hectic than other five days. Nowadays, significant amount of heavy work is carried out by advance equipment so many works can have flexibility in their working hours. For instance, in manufacturing area, most of machines are automatic, it only need to be start after that each steps are done itself. Automation has reduced time requirement and labour feel more relax and stress free. They can get a leisure time even in week days to pursue their hobbies.

Further, having a longer weekend also makes individuals less productive, creative and they may be lazy. During initial days of weekend they feel more relaxing and find solace after working but as the time goes they will start feeling of exhausting because they do not have work to do. No the next day of weekend, they might not willing to do fresh start. In addition to, importance of weekend may be spoil as it is say that free things do not gain much attention than precious things that own by hard working.

To recapitulate, weekend is vital in workers life, it unwinds people after a tedious work life and allows them to spend quality time with their kith and keen. However, much long weekend also hampers people productivity and makes individuals less energetic. So proper balance should be maintaining and companies should arrange more flexible hours and make working environment more adorable and less boring. It recharges their battery.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against shortening the working week. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While the argument regarding automation is relevant, the second body paragraph relies on generalizations about human behavior (e.g., 'they may be lazy') that lack sufficient supporting evidence or logical depth. The conclusion introduces a new idea about 'flexible hours' which was not fully explored in the body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should focus on providing more concrete examples or logical explanations for your claims rather than making broad assertions about worker productivity.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'To commence with', 'Further', and 'To recapitulate', to signal the structure. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'No the next day of weekend' (likely meant 'On the next day') and 'In addition to, importance of weekend may be spoil'. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, which forces the reader to work harder to follow the flow of your argument. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'labour feel more relax' should be 'laborers feel more relaxed', and 'kith and keen' is a misuse of the idiom 'kith and kin'. Phrases like 'make working environment more adorable' are also inappropriate in this context, as 'adorable' is typically used for people or small objects, not professional settings. You demonstrate an attempt to use a range of vocabulary, but more precision and attention to standard collocations are needed to move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('most of machines are automatic, it only need to be start'), article usage ('in week there are'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly with comma usage and sentence boundaries. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding your point, they are frequent enough to be distracting. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
