Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, it is often argued about the working days of labors. Some people believe that there should be a long weekend for workers while other suggests that there should be of one to two days off per week. I strongly disagree with the idea of long weekend.
The primary reason why I disagree with this view is that the advancement of modern era requires more work. This is because working hard is the leading cause of success of a nation. Those who do not pay an attention to working hours and just believe in longer weekend may experience detrimental affects in their businesses. In other words, the workers can get benefit but it will not be productive for firm. For instance, a company which recently opened, and it started giving three to four days off to workers per week, it will decline before sustaining . Since newly launched office requires a great deal of hard work to gain a market recognition.
Another significant reason is that the staff become lazy when get a longer weekend. Their minds are circulating around holidays all the time and they would not put their hundred percent in work. They have their plans for weekend and would spend the week days just thinking about their weekend goals. To illustrate, During COVID, I remember a time we used to go to college only three days per week. We became quite a lazy and hardly tend to focus on studies because every time we were just waiting for weekend to enjoy. As a result, our study was badly affected. Therefore, it is evident that weekend should not be more than two days.
Turning to the other side, weekend may be long when a company do not have enough resources in work place. In this case, shifting work into online mode can be beneficial.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that there should be a great balance between work and weekend and two days off per week is reasonably appropriate. This is primarily because long working days are needed in todays world and for the sustainability of firm. Therefore, the disadvantages of longer weekend overweigh it's advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout, arguing against a shorter working week. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact on business productivity and employee motivation. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding the COVID-19 pandemic is a personal anecdote that is not fully integrated into the broader argument about professional work environments. While the main points are clear, the supporting arguments could be more sophisticated and better linked to the economic or societal implications of a shorter working week to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The primary reason', 'Another significant reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as the transition to the counter-argument paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing, like 'overweigh it's advantages', is slightly awkward. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'sustainability', 'market recognition', and 'detrimental affects'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'detrimental affects' (should be 'effects'), 'labors' (should be 'laborers' or 'employees'), and 'hardly tend to focus' (which is awkward). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the advancement of modern era'), subject-verb agreement ('other suggests'), and punctuation (the apostrophe error in 'it's'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'a company which recently opened, and it started giving three to four days off... it will decline'. These errors are persistent but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on sentence variety and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
