Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is significantly hindered by unclear expression and a lack of logical progression. While the student attempts to link technology to the need for shorter hours, the arguments are repetitive and lack specific, coherent examples. The ideas are often presented in a fragmented manner, making it difficult for the reader to follow the reasoning. To improve, the student should focus on developing one clear point per paragraph with supporting evidence rather than listing loosely related concepts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices; transitions like 'To commence with' and 'On there other hand' are used, but they do not successfully connect the ideas within the paragraphs. The progression of thought is often interrupted by confusing phrasing, such as in the second paragraph where the transition from technology to labor is abrupt. The referencing is also unclear, making it difficult to determine the relationship between the sentences. Improved use of linking words and clearer sentence structure would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and often inaccurate, which frequently impedes communication. There are numerous instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'small time' instead of 'shorter hours' and 'maney time' instead of 'more time'. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology related to the workplace or employment. Many words are misspelled or used in a way that makes the intended meaning ambiguous, such as 'claneful' or 'damand'. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on learning common collocations and improving spelling accuracy to ensure their ideas are conveyed clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, often fragmented sentences. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement, tense usage, and article omission. For example, 'laiber work a 6 day on week' should be 'laborers work a 6-day week'. Punctuation is largely absent, which makes the text difficult to parse. The lack of complex sentence structures prevents the student from demonstrating control over more sophisticated grammar. The high frequency of errors often causes difficulty for the reader and obscures the intended meaning of the arguments.
