Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that employees should work fewer days a week and have longer weekends. I completely agree with this view because it would increase employee satisfaction, subsequently productivity and give them more time for personal and social activities.

One of the major advantages of longer weekends are surge in employee productivity as a result of their workplace satisfaction. Because when they get more time off to relax it reduces their fatigue and burnout significantly resulting in more attention and interactivity helping organizations achieve more goals. Although many traditional organizations require workers to work throughout the whole week, in some job-based firms, work could be done in fewer days. For example, a worker who has to work for four-days a week is much more productive compared to those who have to work the five-days a week.

Another positive side of less working week is that, it gives employees time to do social interactions more and reconnect with the loved ones. Consequently, they feel more connected with their family and contribute more in the society. Moreover, they get the time to pursue something they like or do side hustles to earn extra money. For instance, nowadays, many young job holders are doing freelancing in their free times to earn extra money which is a great addition to their financial independence. They invest the money for their future or passion.

In conclusion, i believe working weeks should be shortened as it would significantly reduce fatigue and burnout among workers, increasing satisfaction and performance, while also giving them a perfect work-life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding productivity and work-life balance are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of freelancing and reduced burnout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the claim that a four-day work week is 'much more productive' is stated as a fact without providing a nuanced explanation or a specific real-world example to substantiate the assertion. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments, providing more depth to your reasoning rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'moreover,' and 'for instance' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the first and second sentences in the second paragraph is slightly awkward due to the sentence fragment starting with 'Because.' Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow and coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'burnout,' 'financial independence,' and 'interactivity.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'do social interactions' (better: 'engage in social interactions') and 'contribute more in the society' (better: 'contribute more to society'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the overall range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and sophisticated vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance and academic tone, rather than relying on more basic phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('one of the major advantages... are') and punctuation errors (missing commas after introductory phrases). Additionally, there is a sentence fragment in the second paragraph ('Because when they get...'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that all complex sentences are grammatically complete.
