Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, worker should provide the facility to work less on working days, and have a longer weekend to feel relax and more productive. I firmly agree with this view, because it provides mental and physical well-being, and also create job opportunities for fresh graduates.

To begin with, working hours play a very crucial role to mental and physical well-being of the individuals. People feel relax due to low working hours and spend more time with their family. As a result, they strengthen their relationships and family's provide emotional supports helps them to feel unwind and perform their tasks productively. For example, if a company allowing working hours form 40 to 50 per week, may give them more time to have dinner with their family, and drop their children to school or do some other activities which were pending due to shortage of time. Therefore, reducing working time helps worker to feel less stress, develop strong family relation and return to work feeling refreshed and more productive.

Furthermore, less working time also creates job opportunities for fresh or new graduates. companies are unable to complete the demand due to the short working hours of the workers, As a result, they hire new staff to complete the task on time. For instance according to the Pakistan's Labour survey 2024-25, a significant proportion of woman arrangements can make employment more accessible to people who cannot commit to traditional full-time schedule, including young workers and woman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas regarding mental well-being and job creation are relevant, the second body paragraph is underdeveloped and lacks a clear logical link between the premise of shorter working hours and the specific example provided from the survey. The conclusion is entirely missing, which is a significant omission for an academic task. To improve, ensure you provide a full introduction, two well-developed body paragraphs with clear examples, and a concluding summary to meet the length requirement and ensure full task coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'As a result', and 'Furthermore'. However, the flow is occasionally disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between 'short working hours' and the inability to 'complete the demand' is confusing. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of a concluding paragraph makes the overall structure feel incomplete. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly supports the thesis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'provide the facility to work less' instead of 'be granted shorter working hours' and 'feel relax' instead of 'feel relaxed'. Some collocations are also imprecise, such as 'family's provide emotional supports'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the repetition of basic terms like 'working hours' and 'tasks' suggests a need for more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('worker should provide', 'family's provide'), article usage, and tense consistency. For example, 'if a company allowing working hours form 40 to 50' is grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring complex sentences are constructed accurately.
