Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, in a fast time, every person wants a break because of their hectic routine. Whereas working hard is also essential for people. I firmly believe that the weekend is very important for a person to relax or try to ready her or himself for the next week.

On the one hand, a major advantage of a long weekend is that people have more time for their family and friends. In some professions, there are no weekends, so the individual becomes ill. Many of the research shows that if a person gets some rest, it's not good her or himself health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 110 words long. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a position, the arguments are severely underdeveloped and the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. To achieve a higher band, you must provide a full introduction, two or three well-developed body paragraphs with supporting examples, and a clear conclusion. The current response is too brief to adequately address the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure due to its incomplete nature. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other', the progression of ideas is interrupted by the abrupt ending. Paragraphing is present but insufficient because the content is not fully developed. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked logically throughout the entire essay, leading to a coherent conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'person' and 'good'. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in a fast time' and 'ready her or himself'. The range of vocabulary is limited, which prevents the expression of more complex ideas. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to the topic of work-life balance and avoid repeating the same simple words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity, such as 'Many of the research shows' (subject-verb agreement) and 'it's not good her or himself health' (incorrect preposition and pronoun usage). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and the attempt at a complex structure at the end is incomplete. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of pronouns and prepositions before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
