Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, some people believe that the working week should be shorter and workers should have longer weekends. I strongly agree with view because this will help workers to reduce stress and plan shorter trips. This will allow them to manage house works such as buying groceries, house repairs and so on.

Firstly, longer weekends reduce the stress level of the workers. This is because working days create work pressure on employees which can be released during the weekend. For example, if an employee worked on an important project during week days, the employee may become tired of working. Longer weekend helps to overcome this situation and an employee can reduce the stress. Additionally, longer weekends encourage the workers to plan shorter family trips. If weekend consists of two-three days, an individual may become tired of staying at home. Therefore, the employees may plan shorter trips with their family.

Moreover, longer weekends helps the workers to manage their house works, especially for single households. During weekdays, employees usually have busy schedules and may not have enough time to buy groceries and make house repairs. Longer weekends may help employees to manage these works. Furthermore, longer weekends may reduce the number of sick leaves of an employee, taking every months. Employees usually take sick leaves to rest at their home. However, by providing longer weekends, employees may reduce the number of sick leaves. This will increase the productivity of an employee and may benefit the companies.

In conclusion, longer weekdays may have certain benefits, I strongly believe that longer weekends will benefits workers and companies. longer weekends help employees to manage house works and reduce stress, whereas it will help companies to increase the productivity of the employees.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on stress reduction, work-life balance, and productivity. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'house works' is mentioned in both the introduction and the third paragraph without adding significant new depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to extend your arguments with more specific examples or nuanced reasoning rather than restating the same points. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Furthermore' to link your points. However, some of these transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of family trips and house chores is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this situation') is always precise will help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'productivity', 'schedules', and 'work pressure'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'make house repairs' (should be 'carry out' or 'perform' repairs) and 'taking every months' (which is grammatically incorrect and awkward). To improve, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific collocations and avoid repeating the same phrases like 'longer weekends' multiple times in a single paragraph. Expanding your range of synonyms will make your writing more engaging.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'I strongly agree with view' (missing 'this'), 'longer weekends helps' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'longer weekdays may have certain benefits' (which contradicts your argument). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage, as these are common areas where your accuracy slips.
