Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt but struggles to maintain a clear position. While you state you 'strongly disagree', the supporting arguments are often contradictory or unclear. For instance, you argue against shorter working weeks, yet your body paragraphs describe the negative impacts of long hours and high pressure, which actually supports the idea of needing a shorter week. The ideas are under-developed and lack logical progression, making it difficult for the reader to follow your stance. To improve, ensure your arguments consistently support your thesis statement throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there are paragraph breaks, the internal flow of ideas is disjointed. You use some cohesive devices like 'On the firstly' and 'In conclusion', but these are often used incorrectly or do not effectively link the sentences. The progression of ideas is confusing, as the transition between the introduction, body, and conclusion is not smooth. To improve, focus on using clear topic sentences for each paragraph and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one using appropriate linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'employees', 'companies', and 'work'. There are significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'concise' used incorrectly to mean 'shortened' and 'refresh time' instead of 'leisure time'. Many phrases are awkward, which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding. To improve, try to expand your vocabulary by learning synonyms and common collocations related to work-life balance, and focus on using words in their correct grammatical context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that make it difficult to read. There are issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and fragments (e.g., 'For instance, and also giving better salaries...'). Subject-verb agreement and tense usage are inconsistent throughout the text. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the basic sentences often contain errors in punctuation and word order. To improve, focus on mastering simple sentence construction first, ensuring each sentence has a clear subject and verb, before attempting more complex structures.
