Student answer (Band 6.0)

Every individual has its own needs and wants in life and to fulfill those needs, one has to work hard. But it should not made compulsion to work for longer hours. For the workers, working days should be less and they should be given longer weekends. I completely agree with this statement and in the following paragraphs i will discuss the reasons for the same.

Working for long hours can badly affect the worker's mental and physical health. They do not get enough time to take a rest which consequently affect their physical health. Longer weekends will help them to give some time to focus on their physical well-being. Sometimes at the workplace, the workers have to face lot of pressure to meet their deadlines. While working in the state of pressure, they sometimes commit mistakes for which they have to have serious consequences. With the extended weekends, they get enough time to rejuvenate their fatigued minds which will be helpful to concentrate better and improve their productivity. With relaxed mind, they commit less mistakes which in return boost their confidence and provide motivation.

Moving further, extended weekends help them to spend quality time with their friends and family which is essential to strengthen their relationships. They can plan holiday trips with their friends and family that is really a best option to wipe the stress out of their minds. To elaborate, this reduces the chances of absenteeism at the workplace.

The workers feel satisfied and really enjoys working at their workplace which can be profitable for both the workers as well as the company.

To conclude, i agree that the workers should be given extended weekends to take a break from a state of pressure and stress which in return improves their productivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding health, productivity, and work-life balance are relevant and logically extended. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the link between stress and productivity is mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more distinct, nuanced examples or counter-arguments to demonstrate a deeper exploration of the topic. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moving further', 'To elaborate', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be more tightly connected to improve the overall cohesion of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'rejuvenate', 'fatigued', 'absenteeism', and 'well-being'. While these words are used correctly, the overall lexical range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler phrasing in several places. There are no significant errors in word choice that impede communication, but the vocabulary lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on incorporating more precise collocations and topic-specific academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'it should not made compulsion' should be 'it should not be made compulsory', and 'they commit less mistakes' should be 'they make fewer mistakes'. Additionally, there are minor issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'in the state of pressure'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading for basic verb forms and countability.
