Student answer (Band 5.5)

People salary depends on their working hours. If they have more working hours or overtime their salaries are high and vice versa. But now, there is an argue about the working week should be shorter and workers have long weekends. In this essay, I will discuss about reasons regarding this debate dive me opinion and draw conclusion.

The normal working week is five days and two depends on weekend. There are several reasons working week should be shorter firstly, people have several commitments with their families by having long weekend they will able to fulfill them. Secondly, workers do the same work with more efficiently in shorter working week as compared to long working week. Thirdly, workers are doing other part time jobs enable to tackle them in better way. In addition, workers feel fresh and more active to maintain healthy lifestyle.

Some people argue workers should have long weekends because, by having plenty of time they will keep themselves fresh and energetic. Also, they have enough time to spend quality hours with their loved ones.

From my perspective, long weekend makes workers sluggish and also, they are less focused about the targets to achieve. One reason of longer working week makes workers punctual because, they are used to their routine. So, I prefer long working week over longer weekend.

In conclusion, both aspects have their own positive and negative aspects on society but, a balance approach should be maintained for the healthy lifestyle that will prove beneficial for the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the debate regarding a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you provide reasons for both sides, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the point about 'part-time jobs' is mentioned but not explained in relation to the main topic. Furthermore, your position is slightly contradictory; you initially suggest a balanced approach in the conclusion, but your body paragraphs lean heavily toward preferring a longer working week. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed argument supported by clear examples or logical consequences.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'two depends on weekend' is unclear, and the transition 'Thirdly, workers are doing other part time jobs enable to tackle them in better way' is grammatically awkward and lacks a clear logical link to the previous points. The referencing is sometimes confusing, and the flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'on the other hand') would help improve the logical progression of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'better', and 'things'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'there is an argue' (should be 'there is an argument') and 'dive me opinion' (should be 'give my opinion'). Some phrases are repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'workers' and 'working week'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to employment, productivity, and work-life balance, and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'People salary depends' instead of 'People's salaries depend'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'a balance approach should be maintained'). The sentence 'Thirdly, workers are doing other part time jobs enable to tackle them in better way' is structurally fragmented. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles, possessives, and verb tenses, before attempting more complex structures.
