Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that employer should get longer weekend and working week should be shorter. I strongly agree with this view because it brings several benefits to the workers.

There are a number of reasons why working days should be shorter in a week. One possible reason is that spend it allows employer to spend a quality time with family members. Due to the busy work-schedule, some people do not give enough time to their children and life partner. For this reason, the interpersonal relationships is losing day by day, which furthure causes separation between couples. If an employee get more holiday in a week than at present, he will able to spend more time to his family members and reduce the possibility of furthure separation. In addition, by doing hard work over the week, most of the employee get tired and feel anxiety. Due to the shorter weekend, they may fail to restore themselves and cannot give concentration to their work. If organization increases the holidays on a weekly basis, worker can get the chance for refreshment and come out from stress by doing different indoor and outdoor activities. Therefore, employee may find himself energetic and complete their task effectively.

Apart from these, there are also two important reasons for longer weekend. To begin with, every person has some responsibilities to the society. If workers get longer weekend, they can utilize their leisure time by doing some social activities, such as, planting trees, attending the cleaning programme and so on. Furthermore, for maintaining the work pressure in office, employee should maintain a wealthy physical fitness. The longer weekend allows worker to keep physically fit by doing physical exercise.

In conclusion, since longer weekend provides a wide range of benefits to the workers, I firmly believe that weekend should be longer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on family life, mental health, and social responsibility. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive and could be more nuanced. For instance, the argument regarding 'social activities' is a bit brief and could have been better linked to the broader economic or productivity implications of a shorter work week. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments occasionally rely on generalizations. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well, but further depth in the analysis would elevate the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Apart from these', and 'To begin with' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are occasional issues with referencing, such as the unclear use of 'it' in the second paragraph. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the connection between the points could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'interpersonal relationships', 'restoration', and 'refreshment'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'employer' instead of 'employees', 'give concentration' instead of 'focus', and 'maintaining a wealthy physical fitness'. These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice and collocation to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'interpersonal relationships is losing', 'employee get'), article usage, and pluralization (e.g., 'some people do not give enough time to their children and life partner'). Some sentences are slightly clunky due to these errors. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy and proofreading for subject-verb agreement.
