Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people believe a working week which is shorter is more beneficial rather than a longer weekend and some oppose this statement. I completely disagree with point of view of shorter weekend. And I have some reasons which I will discuss in the next paragraphs.

One of the main reason in the favour of longer weekend is that the world of today is quite fast and the days are just going in no time. People find very few time for their family and friends which cause problems in their domestic life. If I look around myself I have many family members who have a problems with their wives that they are not giving a lot of time because of their busy schedule and they just have one holiday of Sunday in a week. This is why I prefer to have more holidays in a week. The relationship is one of the most important thing is a human life and just due to the work and professional life it is in danger.

Another thing is to have more relaxing days maintain a good and healthy life for a worker. Due to overwork, a pressure states in the office like a pressure to do this thing and when someone do this 6 days in a week it will destroy his/her mental state. Because work, work and work is not a greatest of the things. This proverb is good in listening but practically it is not beneficial for humans. As human needs rest a peace of mind, a time for his family and a good health.

In short, my opinion is to give at least two vacation holidays in every sector either if he is a Prime Minister or a factory worker. Moreover, a full pay of a week it should not give someone a low salary due to extra vacation. Becasue it works perfectly for the workers relationshps and mental health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by arguing in favor of a shorter working week. However, the position is slightly confused in the introduction, where you state you 'completely disagree with point of view of shorter weekend' while the rest of the essay argues for more holidays. This contradiction makes your stance unclear. While you provide relevant reasons such as family time and mental health, the development is somewhat repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure your introduction clearly reflects your main argument and expand on your points with more specific, varied examples rather than repeating the idea that 'work is not the greatest thing'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Another thing is to have more relaxing days' is a weak transition. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between the 'fast world' and the specific family examples is not smoothly connected. The flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing, which makes the progression of ideas feel a bit disjointed at times. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'work, work and work' and 'do this thing'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'vacation holidays' (redundant) and 'pressure states in the office'. While the meaning is clear, the lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations related to employment and well-being, and avoid repeating the same basic words throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally hinder readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'one of the most important thing is'), article usage (e.g., 'a peace of mind'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'a full pay of a week it should not give someone a low salary'). While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to impact the flow. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your accuracy.
