Student answer (Band 5.5)

many individuals believe that the working days of the week should be shorter, while they believe that the the employers should get enough long weekend. I partially agree that the workers should have long weekend and short week days.

On the one hand, giving long weekend and keeping working days shorter can have many benefits to employers. One of the benefit is getting work-life balance. For instance, the workers who works 6 days a week will get exhausted by the end of week and are not able to spent time on their off day with family or friends. Therefor having balanced working days and off days are important to individual for better balancing between work and life.

In contrast, there are many drawbacks of giving less working days and long weekend to workers. The main disadvantage is to company or employee. one of the drawback is, if working days will get shorter it might affect the company's production. For instance, a company will not able to generate enough amount of products without workers working till the weekend. Therefore, the providing shorter working days and longer weekend to employers can affect the revenue of a company.

In conclusion, i partially support that the workers should get shorter working days and longer weekend because of many advantages and disadvantages. As supporting this sentence could give benefit to individual in work-life balance, but at the same time it will be disadvantageous to owner of a company for generating revenue by the lesser production because of not enough working days.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a partially agreed position. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. While you mention work-life balance and production concerns, the arguments lack depth and specific, real-world examples. For instance, the mention of a company not being able to generate products is a generic point that could be strengthened with a more concrete illustration of a specific industry. Additionally, there is some confusion in terminology, as you frequently use 'employers' when you mean 'employees'. To improve, ensure your position is more clearly sustained throughout and provide more detailed, nuanced explanations for your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In contrast', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs is hindered by repetitive phrasing. For example, the transition between the benefits and drawbacks could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that referencing (e.g., 'this', 'these') is used more precisely to connect ideas across sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are frequent errors in word choice, most notably the confusion between 'employers' (the boss) and 'employees' (the workers). Phrases like 'enough long weekend' and 'get exhausted' are somewhat simplistic. To improve, you should focus on learning collocations related to the workplace, such as 'productivity levels' or 'occupational burnout', and ensure you are using the correct terminology for the people involved in the labor market. Expanding your vocabulary beyond basic terms will significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the workers who works'), article usage (e.g., 'the the employers'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the providing shorter working days'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article placement, and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate punctuation to demonstrate better control.
