Student answer (Band 5.0)

So now we are discussing on the idea or a suggestion that the working week should be shorter and the workers should have a longer weekend. So this idea is not bad we can't apply it in all the countries or worldwide because situation in the every country or reign is different and problems they suffer must be different from one another and we can't apply the same rule or law in all the world. As we know that in the developed and economical strong countries there are less problems and almost most of the people are happy and there pay is also good and due to their developement they take their lot of work from heavy machinery and labours make less effort and they enjoy their work and their is no need to give them the longer weekend because they are doing for their country developement and for the grace of their country they are satisfy with their small weekend holiday. So in the under developed countries the workers pay is low and they work more and more to meet their needs. The other reason of the situation of labours is that the economical situation of their country and in the under developed countries there is less use of the heavy and powerful machinery so workers works a lot and then they meet the requirement of their country so there is no proper reason for the workers to take a longer weekend so now the every country is trying to become the first so if the workers do not work properly then their is a huge loss for their country's economy. So there is normal and short weekend for the labours or workers for their calm and peace.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the feasibility of a shorter working week. However, the position is somewhat ambiguous; while you argue against a universal application, you do not clearly state whether you personally agree or disagree with the concept itself. The ideas are repetitive, focusing heavily on the economic differences between developed and underdeveloped nations without exploring the potential benefits or drawbacks of a shorter week for workers' well-being or productivity. To improve, ensure you clearly state your stance in the introduction and provide balanced, well-developed arguments that directly address the prompt's core question rather than just describing economic disparities.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks paragraphing, which is essential for a clear structure in an IELTS task. The text is presented as a single block, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'As we know' and 'The other reason', they are often used repetitively or in a way that feels mechanical. The flow between sentences is disjointed, and the lack of clear topic sentences makes it hard to identify the main point of each section. Using clear paragraph breaks and a wider variety of linking words would significantly improve the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'problems', 'work', and 'country'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'economical strong countries' (should be 'economically strong') and 'take their lot of work' (which is unnatural). While the meaning is generally clear, the range is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and focus on learning common collocations related to employment and economics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures and contains frequent grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'workers works a lot'), article usage (e.g., 'the every country'), and word order. Punctuation is also problematic, as the essay consists of several long, run-on sentences that lack proper commas or full stops to separate distinct ideas. While the errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader. Focusing on sentence variety and correcting basic grammatical patterns will help elevate your score.
