Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many believe that working week in a week should be short and there should enough long weekend for worker to rest and work-life balance. I strongly agree with this notion because not only it enhances the productivity of the employee but also healthy work-life balance for them. This essay will discuss reasons to agree this statement.

The first and foremost reason for supporting longer weekend is that because of more time after working continuous days employee can rest and destress can enhances productivity on next week. To explain this, after working for 4-5 days worker feels fatigue and stress. And productivity decreases after some day. If they are given time on weekend for reset, they can come on next week with fresh mind and without any fatigue they can work better. As a result, the work done can be more effective in shorter time.

Another strong reason for longer weekend is to maintain healthier work-life balance. working individual has not only to work but also have to do personal life like maintaining health, personal time for exercise or mental peace and also spend time for family. If they are not given enough time to do all these activities then this can negative impact on quality of work done by worker. For example, majority of western countries have rule of only five working days and 2 days for weekend. As consequence, they can maintain their healthy life by enjoying long weekend with family or personal time and return on work with joy with more productivity.

However, providing longer weekend can be costly for employer or any company due to in smaller number of days less amount of work can be completed. But that work with frustration and stress can't be quality work.

In conclusion, although, providing longer weekend can be costly for companies, I believe that shorter working days can result with more productivity and quality work as well as better work-life balance for employer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas regarding productivity and work-life balance are relevant and logically extended. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second and third paragraphs where the benefits of rest are restated using similar phrasing. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to provide more nuanced examples or explore the counter-argument in greater depth rather than simply stating that it might be 'costly'. Overall, the task is addressed well, and the position is clear.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'Another strong reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'As consequence' (missing 'a') and 'due to in smaller number of days'. The flow between sentences is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally imprecise, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific language like 'work-life balance', 'productivity', and 'destress'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'working week in a week' and 'can enhances productivity'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The student relies on a somewhat limited set of descriptive terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' missing before 'worker' or 'weekend'), subject-verb agreement ('destress can enhances'), and prepositional usage. Some sentences are fragmented or lack necessary components, such as 'working individual has not only to work but also have to do personal life'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they do not significantly impede communication.
